Bimbo Lion Heart:
Lifepath of an Androgynous Identity’s Secret Hyperfemme Stripper Cokehead Alter Ego

An exhibition by Yon Mars

May 16–June 16, 2022

“I want to be the girl with the most cake”

A girl of the night, she is Carmen, and she lies to herself that she has no problems. Banknotes tucked into her panties, her wig pinches uncomfortably. She is society’s favourite woman — perfectly fake, invented, illusory. Her lips are red; her garters hold her high-class dreams in place.

Cherry is Yon Mars’s hyper-feminine, stripper, sugar-and-vanilla-smelling blonde alter ego, created in order to internalise the sexualised female archetype. She is the path of a young socially feminine person through the reality of patriarchal society, the shock of being treated like a slab of passive meat. She is an absurdist giggle in the male face, a self-preservation mechanism of the “you can’t do anything to me that I haven’t already done to myself” kind. She is a sex worker with an ideology in her pretty head: every kind of work involves selling your body, and if people are always going to see me more as a sexual object than as a person, why not turn that not only into work, but into my entire identity. /Yon Mars/

Opening: May 16, Monday, 5:00–8:00 PM
Cryptid Art Space (1 Dimitar Traykovich St.)

Yon Mars is an aggressively Sofia-based experimental collage artist, mainly inspired by intersectional feminism, religion and occult practices, substance abuse, and gothic rock with all its associated genres. She once tried a specialised high school of arts, but didn’t like it and turned out to be generally against institutions built on hierarchy. She counts Dimitar Voev, Courtney Love and Robert Mapplethorpe among her constant role models.
