The Magwomb & NxMx: ANTI-RECORDS
Cryptid Art Space invites you to a one-of-a-kind pop-up exhibition of anti-records by the experimental artists NxMx and The Magwomb.
Anti-records are vinyl records that have been altered until they become noise records. This is a form of experimental art that challenges established ideas of music and sound, both conceptually and aesthetically. Anti-records are part of the broader noise music movement, which explores different forms of sonic distortion and abstraction. Not all anti-records can be played on a turntable and produce sound. Some exist purely as visual or conceptual statements. These are the so-called unplayable anti-records, treated in various ways to make them unfit for listening — for example, melted, pierced, coloured, glued together or smashed.
Anti-records question the idea of music and sound as art and culture. They can also be seen as a form of protest or critique of the music industry and consumer society.
The exhibition “Anti-records” by The Magwomb and NxMx opens on 30 October 2023 at 18:00 and runs until 4 November 2023.

NxMx is an artist working between sound and the visual. He is influenced by Dada and Viennese Actionism. His art is closely tied to the post-industrial/noise subculture and aesthetic. In 2008 he founded the Abandonment label, and to this day remains its driving force.
The Magwomb draws inspiration from chaos magick and Dada. In his work he uses all kinds of materials and found objects. For him, the creative process is reduced to free play, with no prior concept and no fixed end point.
