Timothy Walter Burton (b. 1958) is an American filmmaker, artist and animator, known for gothic fantasy and horror films such as “Beetlejuice”, “Edward Scissorhands”, “The Nightmare Before Christmas”, “Ed Wood”, “Sleepy Hollow”, “Corpse Bride”, “Sweeney Todd” and “Frankenweenie”, as well as blockbusters including “Batman”, “Batman Returns” and “Charlie and the Chocolate Factory”.
He has received two Oscar nominations and three BAFTA nominations. He is an Emmy and Golden Globe winner, and has been honoured with two lifetime achievement awards: the Golden Lion from the Venice Film Festival and the Lumière Award.
Burton’s films span many genres, but all of them retain his unmistakable aesthetic. The term “Burtonesque” was coined for his distinctive dark, fairy-tale oddness.
