Amalgam – Exhibition by Ana Avramova-Pesheva /Mano de Ana/
11–23 November 2024

A-mal-ga-m – an alloy of mercury and other metals.
A compound, a blending of seemingly unrelated components.
A collection of memories shaped by an interest in natural history and mysticism, both of which have directly influenced Ana’s entire practice. A combination of strange forms gathered over the years, through her work in different media – printmaking, illustration, photographic techniques.

Ana explores the merging, the amalgam, between science and mystical rituals practiced through the centuries and their seemingly distant, but in fact very close, relationship.

Ana Avramova-Pesheva (Sofia, 1992) met her alter ego Mano de Ana five years ago, after the birth of her son. Since then, she has focused mainly on scientific illustration and printmaking, inspired by natural history and mysticism. She is also interested in analogue photography and alternative photographic processes, and makes a point of folding every new piece of knowledge into her work. She is a staunch supporter of analogue, hand-made, craft-based work and punk DIY aesthetics. Her prints draw on botany, anatomy and entomology, intertwined with elements of various pagan rituals and beliefs.

Opening: 11 November, 6:30 pm
